WIG CARE TIPS:
- Good maintenance of your wig is essential. How you care for your wig will determine how long it will last.
- Our wigs and weaves can be treated like natural hair, but it is important to know that any styling, colouring or abrasive handling that will be damaging to natural hair will also be damaging to your wig/weave and impact the lifespan of your wig/weave severely.
EVERYDAY CARE:
- Use water-based serum/spray in your hair to keep it silky, shiny, and tangle-free. Remember, you only need a pea-sized amount – a little goes a long way. If you’re using a spray, hold the bottle 20cm away from the hair and spray lightly. Too much serum can build up on the hair, making it tangle and appear dull. So, the more frequently you apply serum, the more you’ll need to wash your hair.
- Brush your wig/weave twice a day, starting at the tips. When brushing, hold your hair in the middle. Gently and slowly brush out the tangles at the ends, working your way up to the top of your head. Don’t brush vigorously, as this will cause the hair to shed (and curly hair to lose its curl).
- A detangling brush or wide-toothed comb may be used to brush out severe tangles.
- It is better to remove your wig when you go to bed, but should you opt to sleep with your wig on, it is important to tie down the front of the wig with an edge scarf and place a silk bonnet on it to help keep everything in place.
WASHING:
- Wash your hair every 7-10
- You will need to use a sulphate-free moisturising shampoo and sulphate-free moisturising conditioner (for example, a mild argon oil-based conditioner).
- Always brush your hair and make sure the strands are free-flowing before washing to ensure hair can be washed without getting tangled. Take care not to scrunch the hair as this will cause tangling. If you have used a lot of products on your hair, leave it to soak for 10 minutes.
- Thoroughly rinse out the shampoo and then condition your hair, remembering not to scrunch the hair.
- For deeper conditioning, leave the conditioner to sit for 20 minutes.
- Rinse hair with warm water and gently dry it by patting it with a towel. No aggressive twisting or tugging of the hair.
- Use a detangling brush to comb out the hair when wet.
- Air-drying is recommended, but if you use a blow dryer, always use the medium heat setting.
- The best way to maintain the health of your weave is to treat it like your own hair.
CURLY HAIR GENERALLY TAKES MORE EFFORT BUT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO MANAGE:
- Don’t brush wigs with tight curls. Instead, use your fingers to gently remove tangles. Brush only when wet, with a detangling brush or a wide-toothed comb. You can use a large-toothed comb when hair is dry but don’t comb it more than twice a day – too much combing causes curly wigs to shed and frizz.
- We recommend air-drying your curly wig/weave on a mannequin or wig stand. This will allow the set curl pattern to return.
- Never use products with mineral oils on your curly wig while styling or drying. A water-based spray-on moisturiser is best to use for styling dry wig or weave. A sulphate-free moisturising conditioner (for example like a mild argon oil-based conditioner), can be used for washing though.
GUIDE TO STORE YOUR WIGS PROPERLY:
- If you wear your wig regularly (weekly to bi-weekly), please use a sulphate-free moisturising shampoo and sulphate-free moisturising conditioner (for example like a mild argon oil-based conditioner) regularly. If you are going to store your wig for a longer period of time, make sure they are cleaned beforehand.
- Dedicate the time to properly deep-clean your wig with a sulphate-free clarifying shampoo and conditioner before the wig is placed into storage.
- Make sure your wig is completely dry before storing Otherwise, your wig may develop mould or mildew, if it contains any moisture.
- The best way to store your wigs is by placing them on a mannequin head and away from direct sunlight. This type of storage will preserve the shape of the cap and keep the hair in place and ready to be worn again whenever you want.
- This optimal type of storage can take up a lot of space and become expensive, so as an alternative option, you can keep the wigs inside the original TBF boxes or similar boxes.
- This storage option keeps the hair protected from dust, pollution and sun exposure, and it is recommended when you are planning to store the wig for longer periods of time.
- The best way to store your wig inside a box is by brushing out any knots, folding it in its natural parting and covering it with a hairnet. It is also recommended to use cardboard around the lace area and tissue paper inside the cap to keep their original shape.
- Storage is vital for wig upkeep, much like washing and conditioning. By properly storing wigs, you ensure that they are kept in the best possible condition for as long as possible. It will also make your life so much easier when you are ready to switch styles, knowing that your next wig will be ready to wear and there will be no negative surprises.
